Volunteer Job Description

Are you passionate about creating fun and engaging experiences for others? Join us at The Mustard Seed (TMS) Grande Prairie supportive housing campus as a Recreation Activities Helper and assist to foster a sense of community and camaraderie among residents. Your role at the campus will involve helping with recreational activities, setting up and/or participating in paint nights or craft activities, organizing card and board games, serving snacks, assisting with events such as BBQs and Dessert Evenings, and creating a welcoming environment filled with laughter and enjoyment. There is potential for spiritual engagement and discussion as may be requested by residents.


Your role offsite would be to meet TMS staff at a community centre such as The Eastlink Centre, Cineplex, Mini Links Golf and Ice Cream and others. In community you will help facilitate a comfortable and safe atmosphere for residents and encourage social growth outside the campus. You are responsible for your own transportation and are not required to transport campus residents.


As a Recreation Activities Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in creating a positive and engaging atmosphere at our campus and in community spaces. You will encouraging social interactions, friendly competition, and a sense of belonging among residents.

Requirements

- Christ-centered maturity
- Passion for creating enjoyable experiences and fostering community connections.
- Ability to navigate interactions with challenging individuals who may exhibit unpredictable behavior, including swearing, anger, and the possibility of becoming aggressive
· Knowledge of popular card and board games and willingness to learn new games.
- Ability to facilitate and/or join in craft activities (no experience required!)
· Friendly and approachable demeanor with excellent communication skills.
· Patience and adaptability to accommodate varying skill levels and preferences.
· Respect for diversity and inclusivity, ensuring all participants feel included and respected

 - Minimum 18 years of age.
· Must have completed the on-line FOIP orientation.
· Must have completed a volunteer application & agreement form.
· Must have completed a Police Information Check (for one-on-one activities).
· Must be approved by Mustard Seed staff.

Dates & Times

Primarily weekday afternoons and evenings, possibility for weekends

More Information

- Organize and set up card and board games in designated campus areas.
· Organize and set up snacks in designated campus areas (snacks provided by TMS).
· Engage with residents, encouraging their participation in recreational activities.
· Facilitate game sessions, explaining rules, resolving disputes, and ensuring fair play.
· Create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable and valued.
· Promote positive social interactions, teamwork, and sportsmanship among participants.
